What is the best dry/wet mix for my 7year old cat?

I have a female, talkative, seemingly healthy cat. For the past 7 years, Ive been free-feeding her dry food and giving her either 2 of those small cans daily, or half of the bigger ones in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. This seems to be working perfectly and Ive been told is exactly what I should be feeding her. As she gets older though, I want to make sure Im feeding her the best of the best, whether "senior" cat food really makes a difference, who knows..but I think the indoor formula sounds like something useful since she is an all-indoor cat. Problem is...that stuff is REALLY pricey..so the longer I can make it last would be great. =) Would it be ok to feed her half of the big cans a day and just let her free feed? Should I be regulating the dry food as well? What is best? She looks healthy, not skinny and not heavy..but she's puffy so its hard to tell. Lol My vet just sorta brushes it off and says its fine.. So, Im just curious what you guys might say..
Well as for quality, I never buy food from grocery stores such as Friskies and Fancy Feast. I buy science diet from Petco. Ive asked around at a few vets and they said to leave out 1 cup (max) of dry food in her bowl (right now Im using Nutro Nat. Choice) then keep giving half in the morning, half at night of wet b/c of her age/size (about 5oz needed/day) and needs for hydration. And while the difference is almost null, a few vets did say that "indoor" does actually offer SOME nutrients that cats need that indoor cats wouldnt get due to them never getting exposed to the outdoors. Although, "senior" is stupid. I guess i kinda answered my own question....Lol Thanks though! =)

Help for getting a cat to eat dry food?

I switched my 16 pound cat to Wellness brand canned cat food after learning that wet foods can help with weight loss. Then I found the Wellness Healthy Weight food and want him to eat that since it is designed for weight loss.

The problem is that now that he's tasted the canned food he wants nothing to do with the healthy weight food. Any ideas on how to get him to eat it and, hopefully, lose weight?

How do I solve this cat diarrhea?

I have 3 cats. I have been feeding them Purina Kit and Kaboodle for a year with no problems. Last week, I bought Wellness brand dry cat food. I have been gradually changing to it, mixing it with Kit and Kabooble for a week, but the cats now have diarrhea anyway.

My plan is to start feeding them boiled chicken and rice and then gradually adding Wellness cat food again. Is this the right plan?

Solid gold cat food review?

I've done a ton of research since I got my first kitten a month ago.
I know that the best cat foods include wellness and innova but they're both very expensive.
I'm considering buying solid gold indigo moon dry cat food
I know that its better to feed cats wet food but my cat is so picky and the only wet food she will eat is iams canned kitten food and that isn't exactly the best brand.
Is it better to feed her the iams wet food or try solid gold dry food?

    What's the best cat food?

I have done the research on google (believe me) and I have read and understood the recommended ingredients that cats need. I know the diet should be high in protein, water, and minerals and have no grains. I'm just asking for brands of dry/canned food that cat owners use and trust. So far, I've thoroughly looked into "Natural Balance," "Wellness," and "Orijens" which I think I like the most since we have it in our pet store.
    Any others?

    Thanks!

My cat has food allergies and the only food that has worked for him is Natural Balance Venison and Grean Pea allergy formula. That product was just recalled today. I believe the canned food is still ok, but I don't want to feed him canned food all the time. Can anyone recommend another allergy formula dry food? Please help! I don't want my kitty to suffer from a food allergy attack.

    Cat food question?

I was at petsmart earlier buying cat food. I am switiching over to wet food (may mix some dry food) because i heard wet food is better. A woman who was there advertising a newer type of food ask me to try food made by the blue buffalo company. She explained it was more holisitic and the food is much more natural than the commercial brand. The website iswww.bluebuff.com. I've never heard of them but she gave me some samples. I wasn't sure if anyone knew anything about this company or the food. Is it reputable? thanks!

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS BEFORE GIVING ME AN ANSWER I HAVE TRIED MANY THINGS WITH MY CAT SO PLEASE DON'T SUGGEST SOMETHING I'VE ALREADY TRIED.

Ok so, my cat started having really soft, watery stool early October. We first thought it was worms but we took her to the vet and ruled that out with a fecal test. She was put on Metrodizanole for seven days to clear up any inflammation she may have had. It worked for a little while but then stopped working. So before taking her back to the vet I had to rule out some more things, she has her own room in the house, downstairs actually in our furnished basement where no one bothers her so she wouldn't be stressed out. She has her own litter box, with no cover (she doesn't like the cover) and with the same litter we've always used. She has her own food and her own water and is really content. She has frontline plus on, to take care of any fleas and or ticks.
But back to the food. I think she may have developed an allergy to the food that she's been on all her life. She's 4 years old by the way, and when taking her to the vet they said she was very healthy and not overweight.
I stopped feeding her her dry food and switched her to a somewhat bland diet, which consisted of tuna and rice. She did awesome on this for 4 days, her stool was nice and firm and the right color.
Now I got her some new top quality food. Natural Balance, premium formula for adult cats and kittens. I've done my research and know that this is a good food to go with.
She had her first feeding of it last night, I didn't mix in the old food for fear of the diarrhea coming back.
Upon further inspection this morning there was two piles of diarrhea on the floor down in the basement, she is the only cat down there, so I know its from her.
The only thing that I can think of at this point is that she has an allergy to something that both the foods have in common which is grains. But I'm not sure if it could be that or something else.
Her old food was Kit n' Kaboodle by Iams and doesn't contain many ingredients its mostly fillers. While the Natural Balance contains a lot of good quality ingredients but also some grains, which can be considered fillers. Could this be what she's developed an allergy to?
The diarrhea is the only symptom, no frequent urination, no blood in her stool, no vomiting, no hair loss or scratching.
Please help! I am at the end of my rope literally.
I think that perhaps she's devolped an allergy to the "grains" or "corn" in the food. Because both foods had that in common, the Natural Balance I bought was the premium formula for cats and kittens it comes in a hot pink bag.
Also I know it sounds weird to think she developed this allergy over years time but it's the only thing starting to make sense. Any knowledge would be appreciatted serious answers only please.

Is Preferred pet food cans good for cats?

I brought Preferred pet food cans for my cat from Pathmark and wanted to know if this is a good brand for her? I feed her friskies cans but changed it because it was making her have gas. I want to avoid feeding her dry foods so I'm searching for a brand of can foods that is affordable so I could keep her on it. Preferred pet food cans were very affordable it doesn't contain wheat, soy or corn which I heard were ingredients to avoid when buying cat food.

I have 2 4-yr old indoor only male cats. 1 of them has a chronic autoimmune disease and gets a corticosteroid (Prednioslone) daily.

I've been feeding Iams canned and dry food, but recently read a book about cat nutrtion and found that the dry food is horrible. Yahoo Answerers have said that Innova Evo dry food is the best, and I looked at the ingredients and thy do seem good. The only thing I'm concerned about is the high fat content.

Do you think this is OK to give? Are there any other brands that are better?

About how much does Innova Evo cost?

      Thanks for your help!
THanks for the info so far. I noticed Innova also makes a reduced fat variety-- it's 32% protein, 5.5% fiber, but I calculated the dry-matter carbs and it's 47% (not good!). The Innova Evo is 17% dry-matter carbs.
