I ran out of dry food a couple weeks ago and only had wet food to give my cat. He now only will eat the wet food. I leave dry food out in two spots and he has not touched them in over a week. I want him to stop eating the wet food becuse its expensive, smells bad and i have to feed him 3 times a day.
Im trying 2 b the least wasteful as possible. Shud i put it back in w the dry cat food? Shud i feed it 2 my goldfish? Shud i feed it 2 my painted turtle? Or shud i throw it out my window 2 the squirels n birds? Wud it b bad 4 my goldfish or turtle?
Without a natural food source because they all die off in cold weather these little ladies should be dead. It is much to cold for them outside. They were injured, each missing the use of a front leg, so i brought them inside. I found one moth and a couple of tiny caterpillars, but they moved too much and they are each missing the use of a front leg. That is important for holding the pray. So I thought what about canned cat food??? And the munched it up. This is them eating cat food off a fork. I wonder how long they will live in captivity. They already outlived everyone else. I have had them for 4 days and it is 23 degrees outside. Much too cold for them to survive.
So here is my situation! I have a beautiful little cat who is now around 8 months/8.5 months old - you can see him in photos by looking at some of my older posts and there is a link to his photos.
I am obsessed with my cat and his nutrition, I am forever examining his toilet(however disgusting it is) and making sure I give him a healthy diet.
I feed him 3 times a day, small meals. 1.5 pouches of wet food over 2 meals and one meal of dry food.
I currently buy Science Plan wet food and dry food as his stable diet (40% meat), occasionally a few cans of applaws (75% meat) and this is great, he eats both of them without any problems and loves them. I also boil him a chicken breast once a month. He hates whiskas and it makes him sick!
I live in the countryside and we have only one shop which only stalks your generally lower market cat foods, mainly whiskas and felix and they do not sell kitten formulas. I have to travel over 1.5 hours to buy his cat food and sometimes its impossible to make it to the shop.
I want to know if you fellow cat lovers with experience if you approve of my plan to feed him Felix adult food alongside my usual science plan - the reason being because i dont always have access to the quality food.
I would like to alternate him - 1 day science plan, 1 day felix adult (he is only 8.5 months and this worries me, should it? ) to give him a bit of a mixture in flavours, for the pennies and also for convencience when i cant get the quality food i wish i could afford to feed him all the time
I do not mix - i feed one or the other, but never mix them together and i am wanting to know if you think my diet plan is ok and if it sounds good for my cat.
My cat is 3 yrs old & I just got her 2 months ago. Today while eating dry cat food my cat jumped in the air, was pawing at her face & had her eyes closed for several minutes...like she was squinting. This is the second time she has done this. She's acting like she's in pain and wants to be left alone. I don't know what it could be.
Do you have any idea what it could be?
Thank You
I'm getting a persian kitten soon and want to know the best food in the UK.
I know rice, cereals, grains etc are bad but I'm finding it hard to find one which doesn't have those in.
I'd prefer kitten pouches but cans would also be ok.
Feel free to let me know bad ones too.
Are whiskas or felix ok? bad, good? haha
Also whats best for when it grows up? and should dry food be fed? how often?
Thanks
I can't buy any online by the way.. it has to be from a store e.g pets at home, tesco, asda. Thanks
Keetas Baby - Male - 5 weeks old - eating his first dry cat food. I was starting him out on Gerber's Baby Food (chicken). After a couple days, I started to mix in some dry kitten food to his baby food. Gradually he should get less baby food and more dry kitten food... until he is only eating kitten food. This process was supposed to take several days. But "baby" was eating Mama Keeta's food in a day!
When I brush her she has flakes like dandruff. I thought there must be some kind of natural oil or vegetable that I could add to her food to stop this.
I am about to be a new ferret owner and am curious if a high-quality dry cat food would be alright to feed ferrets with? We feed our cats original (dry; lamb and rice) adult IAMS cat food, which I have heard is fine for ferrets, but want to make sure.
Original with Lamb & Rice contains.
Protein: 32.0%
Fat: 21.0%
If I have to I don't have a problem buying separate food for my ferret, but it would be quite a bit easier and cheaper if they could eat the same food.
asking a vet is useless because 99% offer dry cat food or do not seem to agree that dry cat food is a problem.I am the minority among my friends and relatives as well and looked upon as 'spoiling my cats" when buying wet food.
I started feeding wet to a geriatric cat I was caring for because he seemed to barf on everything else and I wanted to "spoil" him a bit to get him over being afraid of me.
Then I answered a question on here, recommending dry catfood and got thoroughly shot down but one of the shoot downs made intelligent sense, wasn't nasty, and offered several links to very good websites that convinced me I was totally wrong.
So I am an advocate of wet food but.....how do I know what to look for?
I guess I never worried about by products, especially after watching a cat eat a mouse, byproducts and all. Or a bird, guts, feathers and all.
Any brands to recommend?
Most I have looked(yes I do read labels) have 1% protein, even those that start with by products or grain as a first ingredient so thats not reliable.
I have one in my hand now, with no grain in it at all. It happens to be an Aldi's store label brand that is the cheapest I have ever found. next to it, the Friskies stuff looks like crap, water is the first ingredient, wheat gluten and cornstarch comes in 3rd and 4th.
By the adivce so far, the Aldis should be the better choice.
Connie, thank you for the interesting web links. the first one I clicked on gave LOTS of information, just what I was looking for. it also included links that compared canned foods with a chart to make it easier to see just what nutrient was the most of.
One of you mentioned teeth issues.
anyone care to comment on that?
Thats where I got shot down solidly as apparently cat teeth are not like dog teeth.......
Elaine, according to Connies links, by products are not an issue but more of a human ick factor as cats can healthily consume stuff labeled as byproducts that are never used for human consumption, like testicle, brains, spleen and other innards.

I recently moved with my cat from NYC to Santiago, Chile and though I brought about 2 months supply of food with me from the US, it is now all gone. I am looking for a good dry food (yes, I have to give it to her sometimes because it's much cheaper though I do also give her wet a few times a week- she's not picky at all and I will make my OWN wet food if I could find an affordable/easy way to do it - and SAFE for her!) and good wet food here. I have NO idea what brands are like here...they have something in all the vet stores called Royal Canin??? Everyone says it's good. Otherwise they have Iams and Eukanuba... I am pretty sure you can get Iams at the grocery store in the US so am weary of it but am not sure if it's still considered a good wet food option. Please help!!!
I am feeding my 6 week old kitten iams kitten formula (dry and wet together). I know it isn't the best, but better than some. What is the best food for my cat, and what will prolong her life.
PS
she is strictly indoor, fairly active, and is only 6 weeks old.
please help. I want her with me for as long as possible!
He has had a Royal Canin wet food from the vet but when i tried to buy it the pet shop told me you cant buy it and so i tried naturals but hes not liking it! Thanks.
