What are some common cat myths you like to dispel? Here are some of mine.
Declawing is fine, it just takes the nails off!:
This one drives me nuts. It amazes me how many people still think that all they do is remove a cat's nails when they declaw it. It's not a simple removal of the claws but a full blown amputation of healthy toes. Declawing a cat means removing the entire first joint/bone of each toe (otherwise the claw would just grow back!). It'd be like cutting our fingers off at the first knuckle. There are so many alternatives, there is no reason to declaw!

Dry food is best for cats!:
Yes, this was once though to be true but new light is being shed. Unfortunately, many people still believe this. The truth of the matter is, wet is healthier! Canned/wet food is better because it more closely mimics the cat's natural diet and ensures that cats (who naturally have a low thirst drive) are taking in enough moisture to ensure that they don't develop urinary problems.

All cat food is the same, so just pick any of them!:
So many people think they are feeding their cats something nutritious when they are really feeding junk! Not all pet food is made equally. A lot of it is full of corn (these are carnivores we're feeding, chickens!), by-products, dyes, unhealthy preservatives, filler grains and all sorts of nasty stuff.
Low quality foods to avoid: Anything you can find in a grocery store will be low end, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Whiskas, Fancy Feast, Friskies, Meow Mix.
High quality foods to look for: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Felidae, Fromm Four Star, Merrick, GO Natural, Nature's Variety Prairie, Nature's Logic, Artemis Fresh Mix, Timber Wolf Organics.
I've covered a few of my personal biggest ones, anyone got any others they commonly find themselves dispelling? Oh, and star please
Haha, that was supposed to be NOT chickens! Whoops.
How exactly isn't it a question? Just because I included some of the information I normally give when I dispel a myth? I asked what myths about cats people commonly like to dispel. That is a question. Even if I included which ones I personally find myself commonly dispelling.
If it gets reported, so be it. It was done for fun since I'm bored
Silent, just check out the ingredients in Royal Canin. Corn is not something you should be seeing in your pet's food, especially not an obligate carnivore like a cat! That's not even mentioning the by-products in there.
Not all high quality foods are as expensive as you seem to think. In fact, most are much less expensive than those premium diets like Science Diet and Royal Canin (which aren't even good quality foods). For instance, Felidae and Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul are very affordable!
Ami, I know what you mean! So many people still believe the bit about milk/cream being good for cats. A very young kitten requires specialized milk not COWS milk to survive!
And no adult animal is really built to digest milk at all, even us (many of us are lactose intolerant too, we've just been drinking milk for so long we've adapted). People don't realize that most cats are lactose intolerant and that milk is actually quite bad for them!
Ami, I agree with your outdoor cat bit too. That's another myth I find myself dispelling often. The whole "cat's are wild animals and should be let outside!" bit.
I guess dog's are also wild animals and should be allowed to freeroam too, right? Fact is, cats have been domesticated even longer than dogs. They may still have some instincts, but they certainly aren't wild.
There are far too many dangers out there for a freeroaming cat when you could just harness train your cat or build/buy a safe outdoor enclosure.
