I've read from a lot of different sources how wet cat food is so much healthier for cats vs. a total dry food diet. But my cat is really weird and super picky and it seems no matter what brand or flavor wet food I buy, she'll lick it about 3 times and then won't touch it again. How can I get her to eat it or get used to it so I can put more of it in her daily diet?

Please visit catinfo.org for reasons why feeding dry food to cats is not a healthy way to care for them. That said, this video shows my obesity project, Bennie, getting some exercise and mental stimulation by chasing 20 pieces of dry EVO - a grain-free dry cat food. It is very important to understand that ALL dry foods - even the grain-free ones - are water-depleted and contribute significantly to urinary tract diseases in cats - including life threatening urethral blockages. The high carbohydrate load in dry foods also increases the chance that your cat will become diabetic. Please do not feed dry food to your cats unless it is used as shown in this video as a treat and to stimulate exercise. If you want to read about Bennie's weight loss story and more about Feline Obesity, please visit: www.catinfo.org (My apologies for the poor video quality. This movie was shot several years ago.)

I have 3 kittens. They're like 4 months. Nursed them since they we're just opening their eyes. And i STILL dont know the difference between Catnip and dry cat food. My cats eat dry cat food every day. its always there, along with fresh water i replace every time i feed them/refill their bowl. i feed them wet cat food twice a day. breakfast, dinner. they do have some toys with that are "catnip infused" but haha, im retarded soooo i dont know what the difference is.
Someone help me out here? is it bad to have catnip in their toys? My cousin told me it was not good for the cats to have catnip in their toys.
        thanks! xoxo, Lola
oh ya, i dont feed it to them. its just in their toys.

cat food question.. HELP!! easy 10 points!?

i have a three year old long haired male cat and a few months ago he started peeing blood but not in his kitty litter, on the floor and carpet. we took him to the vet and they gave us medicine to give him and told us to put water in his hard food to soften it a bit. we gave him the full dose and watered his food but a few weeks later it started again, so i bought him canned, wet food. he hasn't peed anywhere but the litter box and nothing but pee ever since but the food is so expensive!!! can anyone recommend a more sensitive dry food that won't be hard for him to digest or an inexpensive wet food? PLEASE!!! it cost so much money to keep buying wet food, if there is no other option i will continue to do this but I really wanna find a better way if there is one. THANKS!!
As to you people who said, "if you can't afford him, take him to a shelter" or "you may have to put him down" that was never an option, i love my cat and i CAN afford his food, i was just looking for a better solution. If i didn't find one on here i still would continue to care for him because i love him and that was insulting to me for you to think i was going to give him away or put him down because it cost me a few extra bucks

Okay, I work at a pet store that sells high quality and grain free foods such as taste of the wild, merrick, wellness, eagle holistic, evolve, nature's variety, wysong, halo, etc. Well, today at work, I was reading an article about a new line of food we will be carrying from wysong called "Wysong Epigen" (it's a dry dog and cat food), and the article is titled "Starch free vs. Grain free". Here is the article: (ps - in your response to the article, I don't want to hear you advocating raw food, I don't care, all I want opinions on is the commercial dry foods, thanks)

"Starch is the fundamental problem is all kibble pet foods. "Epigen" is the first kibble pet food absent of this unnatural (to carnivorous pets) sugar source (starch is simply a polysugar). Grain free products have merely replaced grain with other, less healthy starches such as potatoes, peas, and tapioca. This solves nothing. It only creates a perception of benefit that, according to scientific studies, is not true. Starch is starch, whether it's from potatoes and tapioca, or corn and wheat.

Starch-free Epigen represents a true first, and is an honest, natural, and healthy product. Grain free diets are marketed as "new", "more natural" "more wild", "just like raw" and "more meat". All such claims are false and misleading.

Starch-free Epigen replaces the starch ingredients with proteins (the carnivore's main requirement) and a wide spectrum of essential nutrients. Grain free products are not only laden with starches, they are nutritionally inferior. Moreover, studies have shown that by replacing grain starches with other forms. beneficial probiotics are decreased and pathogenic bacteria are increased.

Grain free products have only been falsely promoted as more akin to what dogs and cats would eat in the wild. Grain free diets have no science behind them and solve no health problems because they contain the same problematic starch that has been in all pet foods since the beginning. They do, however, create an illusion of benefit and uniqueness, but that only justifies an inflated price. What has driven grain free is marketing industry trending, hype, and profiteering."

I am not a fan of this article. I have switched many people's dogs with skin issues to grain free foods and have had GREAT feedback from most, and my dog is on Taste of the Wild, and his mild dry skin has disappeared. Do you agree with this article, or do you think it's just marketing on Wysong's part? thanks for reading.
we are not about marketing. We care about the foods for the pet. This is simply something that was faxed to us by Wysong company. I DO NOT like what they are saying, and I promote grain free feeding, and I feel as though this article does nothing buy bash it..

Affordable grain free dry cat food?

My cats, no matter what I do, refuse to eat wet food. But I want them to be healthy, of course, so can you give me suggestion on a grain-free dry cat food that won't break the bank? Thank you!

Don't respond, "Try Meow Mix it's cheap!" It also killed my friend's cat. And "Science Diet/Iams/Royal Canin is awesome" is just not true.
Also I don't buy from any stores that sell any animals.
.25-.50 per pound is the most I can spend on my college student budget. Lol, I can't wait until I graduate.

Are their foods i can buy for my cat that……?

My cat has lost a lot of weight. He is now a one hundred percent outside cat and ever since he had been outside he has gotten very skinny. He was at a perfect weight before he started to lose the weight so now he just looks scrawny. Well i was wondering is there was a food i could buy him that would make him gain weight. If so were can i buy it. What is it called and how much does it cost. By the way my cat always has access to dry food. We have a large container
that is always set out for him.
Also we always have a large bucket of fresh water set out that we change twice a week.
I also feed him half a can of wet food a day as a treat.
Any answers would be nice and well appreciated.

Which cat food should I try? Raw diet maybe?

Ok. I currently feed my cat a combo of Blue Buffalo Spa Select wet and dry. I know all the problems with dry, I just like the idea of her being able to free-feed, mostly because I honestly can't afford to feed her strictly wet. Because of this, I've been looking at other, lower-priced premium foods like Wellness and Natural Balance. Which of these would you recommend, and why? Also, is it a good idea to rotate the brands to add some variety?

One more thing: I'm interested in learning about a raw diet, and I would like to know people's experience with cost of feeding raw and convenience of preparing the food and obtaining it.

                                INFO.
                                Name: Lucy
                                Age: 9 weeks old
                                Gender: Female

Updates: Dewormed/checkup before she came home. Will be spayed and given shots this Saturday.

                                INTRO.

Let me start by saying that I have nothing against cats. I've never liked cats, I have no knowledge for them, and I take to dogs more. Recently my sister brought home a wild kitten without my knowledge. Note: when I say wild I mean born outdoors with the lack of human interaction. A woman was rescuing kittens nearby her home and took them to the pound. Unfortunately, the manager said that there was just an overabundance of them. If she were to give them up they would have to be humanely euthanaized immediately. However she decided to try and convince customers in Pet Value if they wanted to adopt them. It just so happens my sister was walking by at the time. At first I was completely against the cat, firmly saying "It's not my cat it's yours. Do whatever you want." My sister ( 21 ) desperately wanted it and as long as she took full responsibility I felt content. I am an animal lover after all and if it meant saving a life then sure, why not?

With no surprise my sister's "Responsibility" slowly diminished. I believe she's fed the cat twice her entire life and enjoys buying the accessories more than actually having ownership. PLEASE don't be offended by my sister she's one of those artificial, materialistic, divas. She reminds me of Paris Hilton, mind it's not easy putting up with it. And it disgusts me when people desire baby animals and in a day grow bored of them or find them to be chores. Please don't say anything mean about my sister she does mean well. Now as said before I dislike cats but I'm not that cruel. Despite my sister's lack of ownership and the fact that I couldn't just give it to the pound I've decided to care for her. I feed Lucy 1/2 cup 3 times a day no later than 6:00pm ( I plan to ask the vet as of how much and how many times I should really feed her ). I play with her constantly (at least a minimum of 4 hours a day), clean the liter box everyday, and change the liter once a week every Sunday. Overtime my dislike for cats have grown to a fondness. I honestly can say that I have developed an emotional attachment with Lucy.

                                Breakdown Mode
                                ( Nutrition )

The vet that my sister took Lucy recommended dry food. My sister even purchased a book from Petco, Kitten Guide for the best start in life by Science Diet, that recommended the same thing ( Go figure....). However, I'm a research freak and decided to surf the web for more additional information. Eventually, I've stumbled onto Lia A. Pierson's site: http://www.catinfo.org/ I prefer gathering my information from books considering they're a lot more accurate about facts. Information on the web, especially google searched engines, are more of opinions than facts. When I've read Lia's articles she made a lot of obvious reasons why dry food had poor quality. I even made the poor choice of going to Walmart and purchasing the Goodlife Recipe: Chicken and brown rice. At the time I suppose my sister and I were thinking more of a human's diet than a cat's diet. I was very upset when I have found out what I'm really doing to my cat. Possibly giving her kidney stones, urinary tract infections, diabetes, and even obesity. Not too mention really bad gas due to the horrible cat food.

These were just some of the ingredients I've found from the Goodlife Recipe: "GROUND CORN, CHICKEN BY-PRODUCT meal, CORN gluten meal, Animal Fat, Chicken, WHOLE GRAIN, BROWN RICE, Natural Poultry flavor, DRIED PEAS, RICE, WHEAT FLOUR, BREWERS DRIED YEAST" - (My jaw dropped)

Immediately I took the initiative today to correct this problem. I've exchanged an unopened bag of the cat food she's been eating to get wet food instead. However, I didn't have a recite so I couldn't make a trip to Petco. Instead I was given store credit and this way I had plenty of time to read the labels. This is where my breakdown began. With the little knowledge I knew about cats I made an effort to try and find the best food ( if possible ) other than Goodlife. I ran into a lot of ingredients that consists of corn and rice. If one had corn or such vegetation listed as the first three ingredients I immediately put it down. One by one each food had such poor quality. I was extremely upset and I even started to cry a little. I was just so frustrated about being such a bad cat owner and slowly killing Lucy with poor nutrition. Not too mention the questionable glances people gave me seeing an 18 year old girl cry as she read the back of cat foods. It was humiliating now that I think of it but at the time I was really concerned and unsure if I was making the right choices.

I literally took 2 hours comparing and contrasting wet foods when it finally came down to Friskies or Iams. Iams sounded good until I felt there was more quantity of meat by-products than of muscle meats. One of the ingredients was also rice brewer and that

I feed my 5 cats different brands of food. I try to stay away from Purina because I have had multiple sources tell me it is not a good brand. None of them are over weight, but I want to feed them healthier food. I have looked at pet stores and I know natural and organic food is good for them, but they seem to be SO pricey. Any suggestions on a good brand of food wet and dry that is not overly expensive for my cats?!
